Assignment 9 - Lip Sync
For this week's homework please animate a character lip syncing to three sentences:
1. "Hello"
2. "I love you"
3. "...and then the baseball smacked me in the head"
You can put your own spin on what emotion your character has behind the delivery. Please use one of these methods to create your lip sync:
1. full head replacement
2. mouth replacement
3. lower jaw replacement
4. sculpting as you go
Animation can be shot straight down or straight on, but it should be a close up of your puppet's head (so that we can easily see its mouth). Don't be afraid to deviate from the norm and get really creative with your visuals.
Remember:
* hold the closed consonants (B, D, F, T, TH, V) for at least two frames; if you have to borrow a frame to get those two frames, borrow from the frame before, never after
* don't ease into the vowels - let them pop (you can ease out of the vowels)
* simplify - don't close the mouth multiple times if you don¡¦t have to, let the viewer get a feeling of the word not of the letters
* don't over enunciate; don't think of the individual letters, think of phrases and words as a whole; remember, sounds blend over and into one another
* keep teeth and jaws consistent
* never in-between the tongue
* to accentuate the sound with movement put physical movements (head turns, slants, shoulder shrugs, etc) 3 to 4 frames ahead of vocals
